The above post is very inaccurate. The Catholic Church instigated a policy/regime of meatless Fridays, and other days in the Church Year, in order to ensure a healthy diet in the congregations. This was instituted in the early Middle Ages throughout Europe. The main bulk of the population had very poor diets and the focussing on fish gave them a more varied diet and resulting increase in health. It was a pastoral decision at the beginning that took on many myths and attributes that were not in the minds of the instigators.
And also, regardless of the perceived "sacrifice" of no meat on Fridays, (and Wednesday if desired, also Ash Wednesday and Good Friday), Catholics ALSO give to charity. It is not in place of, it is in addition to.
You also omit that the Friday meatless day is also a day of fasting. There will a breakfast, and, if not a manual worker, or old or sick, nothing until the evening meal. You don't mention that. So we fast as well as you, except you do it monthly, we do it weekly.
Regarding the Eucharist, or the Sacrament, we NEVER forget that JESUS said of the CUP:- " Drink of it, all of you, for this is MY BLOOD of the new Covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins". So, providing the mind-set of the recipient is one of regret and determination to change, the Sacrament ITSELF forgives sins of the recipient. Why? Because it is the BODY and BLOOD of the SAVIOUR. Why? Because HE told us IT was, and we believe HIM.
Would you amend your post to contain the truth? Please.
